Description
Macroplast UK 8103 Kit for Bonding Insulated Panels
Building cold room panels means bonding steel skins to foam cores, panel after panel, with no room for weak spots. That takes an adhesive and a hardener that are matched and ready to go. The Macroplast UK 8103 kit gives you both in one set. At Wisdo Merchants, we supply it to panel manufacturers, cold room builders and truck body fabricators across Nairobi and Kenya.
Macroplast is the name many fabricators still know for Henkel’s panel adhesives, which are now sold under the Loctite brand. This set contains the resin, Loctite UK 8103, and its hardener, Loctite UK 5400. When mixed, they form a solvent-free polyurethane adhesive that cures into a hard but slightly elastic bond. As a result, it holds metal, wood, plastic and rigid foam firmly together in sandwich panels.
Features and Benefits of the Macroplast UK 8103 Kit
- Resin and hardener together. You get both parts in one purchase, so you never have to source the hardener separately.
- Matched for the 5:1 ratio. The components are designed to mix at 5 parts resin to 1 part hardener by weight.
- Solvent-free. It bonds polystyrene and other rigid foams without attacking them, and gives off no solvent fumes.
- Stays flat. The cured adhesive shows no measurable change in volume, so panels don’t warp.
- Bonds a wide range of materials. It joins pre-treated metals, plastics, wood and foams such as polystyrene, polyurethane and rock wool.
For panel makers, this means fewer delays and consistent results on every batch. Meanwhile, cold room owners get strong, well-insulated walls and doors.

Applications of the Macroplast UK 8103 Kit and How to Use It
- Cold room and freezer panels with steel skins and foam cores
- Insulated doors for cold rooms and chillers
- Refrigerated truck bodies and container walls
- Insulated wall and roof panels for buildings
- Composite boards made from foam, wood and plastic layers
Laminating a Batch of Panels
Picture a cold room builder starting a production run of wall panels. First, the team cleans and pre-treats the steel skins and checks that the workshop is above 15 °C. Next, they weigh out resin and hardener in the 5 to 1 ratio and mix them until the colour is completely even. After that, they spread the adhesive over the skin, lay the foam core and top skin, and move the panel into the press. Finally, they keep the panel under pressure until the adhesive cures; a thin bead of squeeze-out along the edges confirms there is enough adhesive in the joint.
Tips for Consistent Results
Mix only as much as you can use within the working time. Furthermore, keep the hardener container sealed between uses, because it reacts with moisture in the air. If you only need extra resin to match hardener you already have, see our resin-only pack. For fixing rubber door seals on the finished cold room, use our rubber and plastic instant glue.
Safety and Handling
- The hardener contains isocyanate. Avoid breathing vapour or mist, and work in a well-ventilated area.
- Wear protective equipment. Use chemical-resistant gloves, safety glasses and protective clothing.
- Read both Safety Data Sheets. Check the SDS for UK 8103 and UK 5400 before use.
- Keep the hardener dry. Close the container immediately after use to stop moisture getting in.
- Store properly. Keep both components in a cool, dry place, away from frost and direct sunlight.
- Clean up promptly. Remove uncured adhesive with Loctite SF 8040; cured adhesive can only be removed mechanically.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Macroplast the same as Loctite?
Yes. Henkel’s Macroplast panel adhesives are now sold under the Loctite brand, with the same UK product codes.
What is in the set?
The set contains Loctite UK 8103 resin and Loctite UK 5400 hardener, the two parts needed to make the adhesive.
What is the mixing ratio?
Mix 5 parts UK 8103 to 1 part UK 5400 by weight, or 3.7 to 1 by volume.
Can I use it below 15 °C?
It is designed to cure at room temperature from 15 °C upward. In colder conditions, warm the workshop or use heat to help it cure.
