Refrigeration Tube Cutter for Clean AC and Fridge Pipe Cuts
Every good joint starts with a good cut. A hacksaw leaves rough, angled ends and copper filings that end up inside the system, where they block capillaries and damage compressors. A crooked cut also makes a lopsided flare that leaks. A refrigeration tube cutter solves all of this. At Wisdo Merchants, we supply tube cutters to AC installers, refrigeration technicians and plumbers across Nairobi and Kenya.
The cutter clamps around the pipe and uses a hardened cutting wheel to score it as you turn the tool. With each turn, you tighten the knob a little until the pipe parts cleanly. As a result, you get a square, burr-free cut with no filings, ready for flaring or brazing.
Features and Benefits of the Refrigeration Tube Cutter
- Square, clean cuts. The ground alloy tool steel blade produces straight ends that flare and braze properly.
- No filings. Unlike a hacksaw, it leaves no copper dust to contaminate the system.
- Doesn’t crush the pipe. Gradual tightening cuts soft copper without flattening it.
- Easy cutting. A ball-bearing design lets the cutter turn smoothly around the pipe with less effort.
- Wide cutting range. One tool cuts pipe from 1/4″ up to 2-5/8″ (6–70 mm), from fridge lines to large cold room pipes.
For technicians, this means better joints and fewer leaks. Meanwhile, clients get systems that stay clean inside and run reliably.

Making a Perfect Cut
Picture an installer cutting copper pipe for a new split AC. First, they mark the cutting point and place the pipe between the wheel and the rollers. Next, they tighten the knob until the wheel just touches the pipe. After that, they rotate the cutter once or twice around the pipe, then tighten the knob a quarter turn and repeat until the pipe parts. Finally, they remove the burr from the inside edge and point the pipe downwards while doing so, so no burrs fall inside.
Next Steps After Cutting
A clean cut is ready for the next stage. For flare joints, use our flaring tool kit. For brazed joints and fitting our charging valves with brass pins, use our screw-on brazing torch.
Safety and Handling
- Don’t over-tighten. Tightening too fast crushes the pipe and dulls the wheel.
- Watch the sharp edges. Freshly cut pipe and burrs can cut your fingers.
- Wear safety glasses. Small burr fragments can fly off when deburring.
- Keep the wheel sharp. Replace a worn or chipped wheel for clean cuts.
- Keep it clean. Wipe the rollers and wheel after use to stop grit marking the pipe.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why not use a hacksaw?
A hacksaw leaves angled cuts, rough edges and copper filings that can enter the system. A tube cutter gives clean, square cuts with no filings.
Can it cut steel pipe?
It’s designed for copper, brass, aluminium and thin-wall tubing. Use a heavy-duty cutter for steel pipe.
Why is my cut not square?
Usually the cutter wasn’t seated straight, or it was tightened too much at once. Tighten in small steps and keep the rollers flat on the pipe.
Do I still need to deburr?
Yes. Even a clean cut leaves a small inside burr. Remove it with a deburring tool, especially before flaring.
What pipe sizes does it cut?
The VALUE VTC-70 cuts pipe from 1/4″ to 2-5/8″ (6–70 mm) outside diameter. That covers 1/4″ fridge lines, split AC pipes and large cold room suction lines.
