Burner Nozzle for Oil and Diesel Burners
The nozzle is the smallest part of an oil burner, yet it has the biggest effect on the flame. It turns pressurised diesel into a fine mist that mixes with air and burns cleanly. Over time, the tiny orifice wears or clogs. The spray then turns uneven and coarse, giving soot, smoke, a smelly flame, higher fuel use and lockouts. A new burner nozzle restores a clean, efficient flame. At Wisdo Merchants, we stock 60° burner nozzles from 1.0 to 12.0 GPH for boiler technicians, bakeries, hotels, laundries and factories across Nairobi and Kenya.
A burner nozzle has a precise orifice and a swirl chamber inside. The fuel pump pushes diesel through at high pressure, and the swirl chamber spins it into a cone of tiny droplets. Every nozzle is marked with its flow rate in US gallons per hour (GPH) and its spray angle. The GPH sets how much fuel the burner uses, so it controls the heat output. The angle sets the width of the spray cone.
Features and Benefits of the Burner Nozzle
- Eleven sizes in stock. Choose from 1.0 up to 12.0 GPH, all with a 60° spray angle.
- Fine, even spray. Small droplets burn completely for a clean, stable flame.
- Lower fuel use. Complete combustion gets more heat from every litre of diesel.
- Less soot. A clean flame keeps the boiler and heat exchanger cleaner and more efficient.
- Reliable ignition. A good spray lights easily, which reduces lockouts at start-up.
For technicians, this means the right size on the shelf for most jobs. Meanwhile, owners get cleaner combustion and lower fuel bills.

Choosing a size: the GPH sets how much fuel the burner uses. Smaller sizes, from 1.0 to 2.5 GPH, suit small boilers and ovens. Middle sizes, from 3.5 to 6.0 GPH, suit medium boilers and dryers. The largest sizes, from 8.0 to 12.0 GPH, suit large boilers and industrial burners. Always fit the size the burner maker specifies, or match the old nozzle exactly.
Applications of the Burner Nozzle and How to Use It
- Annual burner servicing on boilers and ovens
- Fixing smoky, sooty or unstable flames
- Curing hard starts and ignition lockouts
- Matching burner output to the boiler’s heat load
- Keeping spares in common sizes for critical sites
Replacing a Burner Nozzle
Picture a technician servicing a hotel boiler with a sooty, smelly flame. First, they switch off and isolate the burner, close the fuel valve and let it cool. Next, they read the markings on the old nozzle, for example “2.0 GPH 60°”, and remove it with a nozzle spanner. After that, they screw in a new nozzle with exactly the same markings, without touching the tip, and check the electrode gap. Finally, they restore fuel and power, bleed the pump, check the pressure and fire the burner to confirm a clean, steady flame.
Parts That Shape the Flame
The nozzle works with the rest of the burner. Pressure comes from the pump, so check it and fit our Suntec AS47 and AS67 pumps if it’s low. Air comes from the fan, so a weak motor needs our 150 W, 2,750 rpm motor. For a quick light-up, pair the new nozzle with our XTSF-10 2 × 5 kV transformer.
Safety and Handling
- Isolate first. Switch off the burner and close the fuel valve before removing the nozzle.
- Match the markings exactly. Use the same GPH and spray angle as the burner maker specifies.
- Don’t touch the tip. Fingerprints and dirt on the orifice spoil the spray.
- Don’t clean nozzles with wire. Poking the orifice damages it, so replace a blocked nozzle instead.
- Check the electrodes. Set the electrode gap and position correctly after fitting the nozzle.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which sizes do you stock?
We stock 1.0, 1.5, 1.75, 2.0, 2.5, 3.5, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0, 10.0 and 12.0 GPH, all with a 60° spray angle. Call us if you need a different size or angle.
What do the numbers on the nozzle mean?
The first number is the flow rate in US gallons per hour, and the degree figure is the spray cone width. For example, “2.0 60°” means 2.0 GPH with a 60° cone.
How often should I change the burner nozzle?
Most technicians replace it at every annual service. Change it sooner if the flame turns smoky, sooty or unstable.
Can I fit a bigger nozzle for more heat?
Only within the burner and boiler maker’s limits. An oversized nozzle overfires the boiler, wastes fuel and causes soot.
