Motorol Refrin Compressor Oil for R134a Car Air Conditioning
A car’s AC compressor has no oil sump of its own to fall back on. Instead, the oil travels around the system with the refrigerant, coating the compressor’s moving parts as it passes. Lose that oil through a leak or a repair, and the compressor can seize within weeks. At Wisdo Merchants, we supply Motorol Refrin compressor oil to auto AC technicians, garages and fleet workshops across Nairobi and Kenya.
Motorol Refrin is a compressor oil made for automobile air conditioning systems that run on R134a refrigerant. Technicians use it to replace the oil lost during repairs, so the compressor stays properly lubricated after the system is recharged.
Features and Benefits of Motorol Refrin Compressor Oil
- Made for R134a car AC. It is designed to mix and circulate with R134a, the gas used in most vehicles on Kenyan roads.
- Protects the compressor. It lubricates pistons, swash plates, vanes and bearings, reducing wear and preventing seizure.
- Keeps seals supple. Correct oil helps O-rings and shaft seals stay sealed, which reduces refrigerant leaks.
- Restores lost oil after repairs. It replaces the oil removed with a failed compressor, condenser, hose or receiver-drier.
- Supports cooling performance. The right oil charge helps the system cool efficiently without overloading the compressor.
For garages, this means fewer comebacks after AC repairs. Meanwhile, vehicle owners enjoy cold air and a longer-lasting compressor.

Applications of Motorol Refrin Compressor Oil and How to Use It
- Car and SUV air conditioning systems running on R134a
- Pickups, vans and matatus with R134a AC systems
- Buses and trucks with belt-driven R134a compressors
- Compressor replacement, to pre-charge a new or rebuilt unit
- Component replacement, such as a condenser, evaporator, hose or receiver-drier
Adding Oil During an AC Repair
Picture a car whose AC stopped cooling after a stone holed the condenser. First, the technician recovers any remaining gas and fits a new condenser and receiver-drier. Next, they add the amount of Motorol Refrin oil that the vehicle maker specifies for those parts, because some of the system’s oil left with the old components. After that, they pull a deep vacuum to remove air and moisture. Finally, they recharge with our HFC-134a for car AC by weight, following the label under the bonnet.
Getting the Amount Right
Too little oil starves the compressor, while too much reduces cooling and can damage the compressor’s valves. Therefore, always follow the vehicle or compressor maker’s oil quantity for each part you replace. Check the viscosity grade on the label against the vehicle’s requirement as well.
Keep It Dry
AC compressor oils absorb moisture from the air quickly (see hygroscopy). Moisture in the system forms acids and ice that damage parts and block flow. For this reason, keep the container tightly closed and reseal it immediately after use.
Safety and Handling
- Avoid skin and eye contact. Wear gloves and safety glasses when handling oil.
- Keep containers sealed. This prevents moisture absorption and contamination.
- Store properly. Keep the container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Do not mix oil types. Avoid mixing with mineral oil or other AC oils unless the manufacturer allows it.
- Check hybrid and electric vehicles. Electrically driven AC compressors often need a special oil, so follow the vehicle maker’s specification.
- Dispose of used oil responsibly. Collect AC oil separately and hand it to an approved waste collector.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do I need to add compressor oil?
Add oil when you replace the compressor or another component, or after a major leak. A simple top-up of gas on a sealed system does not usually need extra oil.
How much oil should I add?
It depends on the vehicle and the part replaced. Always follow the vehicle or compressor maker’s figures.
Can I use this oil in an R1234yf system?
Only if the label states it is approved for R1234yf. Many newer vehicles use R1234yf, which may need a different oil.
Can I use car AC oil in a fridge or cold room compressor?
No. Stationary refrigeration compressors need their own specified oil, such as our ISO VG 68 POE lubricant where the compressor maker calls for it.
