Suniso SL100 Refrigeration Oil for Heavy-Duty HFC Compressors
Large compressors in chillers, cold stores and industrial plants work under heavy loads and high temperatures every day. They need an oil that keeps a strong film on bearings while still flowing back from the evaporator. At Wisdo Merchants, we supply genuine Suniso SL100 refrigeration oil to refrigeration technicians, HVAC contractors and plant maintenance teams across Nairobi and Kenya.
Suniso SL100 is a high-performance, fully synthetic polyol ester (POE) lubricant in the ISO VG 100 viscosity grade. It is formulated for compressors running on HFC refrigerants and HFC/HFO blends. As a result, it mixes well with the gas, returns reliably to the compressor and protects moving parts under demanding conditions.
Features and Benefits of Suniso SL100 Refrigeration Oil
- Made for chlorine-free refrigerants. It is miscible with HFC gases and HFC/HFO blends, so oil circulates and returns efficiently.
- Strong film at high temperatures. Its ISO VG 100 viscosity grade gives heavier protection than lighter oils, which suits large and hot-running compressors.
- Excellent viscosity retention. It holds its viscosity well even with refrigerant dissolved in it, protecting compressor bearings.
- High thermal stability. With a flash point of about 270 °C, it resists breakdown at high discharge temperatures.
- Low moisture content. It leaves the factory with less than 100 ppm of water, which helps keep systems dry and clean.
For you, this means longer compressor life and fewer unplanned shutdowns. Meanwhile, plant owners benefit from steady, efficient cooling.

Applications of Suniso SL100 Refrigeration Oil and How to Use It
- Screw compressors in water chillers and industrial cooling plants
- Large semi-hermetic and open compressors in commercial refrigeration
- Cold stores and process cooling running our freezer-grade HFC-404A or R507
- Air conditioning and heat pump systems that specify an ISO VG 100 POE oil
- Oil changes and top-ups after compressor repairs
Choosing the Right Grade
Viscosity grade matters. A compressor designed for ISO VG 100 needs that thicker film to protect its bearings. On the other hand, a smaller compressor built for a lighter oil may suffer poor oil return if you use SL100. For those units, consider our lighter ISO VG 68 POE lubricant. Always check the compressor nameplate or manual first.
Changing Oil in a Screw Chiller
Picture a commercial chiller due for a scheduled oil change. First, the technician isolates the compressor and recovers or pumps down the refrigerant. Next, they drain the old oil and inspect it for discolouration, metal particles or a burnt smell. After that, they replace the oil filter, refill with Suniso SL100 to the correct level and pull a vacuum. Finally, they restore the refrigerant and monitor oil pressure and temperature during start-up.
Keep It Dry
POE oils are strongly hygroscopic, meaning they absorb moisture from the air quickly. Moisture in the system can form acids and damage the compressor. Therefore, keep containers tightly sealed and use the oil soon after opening.
Safety and Handling
- Avoid skin and eye contact. Wear gloves and safety glasses when handling oil.
- Keep containers sealed. This prevents moisture absorption and contamination.
- Store properly. Keep containers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
- Do not mix grades or types carelessly. Follow the compressor maker’s guidance before mixing different oils.
- Dispose of used oil responsibly. Hand used oil to an approved waste collector rather than pouring it away.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does “VG 100” mean?
It is the ISO viscosity grade. An ISO VG 100 oil has a viscosity of about 100 cSt at 40 °C, making it heavier than VG 68 or VG 32 oils.
Which refrigerants work with Suniso SL100?
It is designed for HFC refrigerants and HFC/HFO blends, such as those used in modern refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps.
Can I use SL100 instead of a VG 68 oil?
Only if the compressor manufacturer allows it. Using a heavier grade than specified can reduce oil return and efficiency.
Can I mix Suniso SL100 with mineral oil?
Small amounts of residual mineral oil are acceptable during a retrofit. Even so, remove as much as possible for the best oil return with HFC gases.
